Namesake: Captain Mary Klinker, Air Force Nurse Corps
Captain Mary Klinker served in the Air Force Nurse Corps and fought in the Vietnam War. She provided medical care as a Flight Nurse for service members and volunteered for Operation Babylift during the Fall of Saigon. CPT Klinker worked to save war orphans by evacuating them. She was killed in action in Bien Hoa, Vietnam when her plane was shot down killing her, 78 children, 11 Airman and 34 Defense Attache employees. 80 war orphan infants were saved from the wreckage and she was posthumously awarded the Airman's Medal for Heroism, Meritorious Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross, and the Purple Heart.
