Christopher Jerome "C.J." Witkowski of Muskegon County, Michigan was a U.S. Naval Commander who was born in 1946 and served in the Vietnam War. He attended Michigan State University where he received a degree in Physical Science. After graduation, he entered Aviation Officer Candidate School and was commissioned in April 1969. He received his wings as a Naval Flight Officer in March 1970. Commander Witkowski was initially assigned to the ATTACK SQUADRON 128 and underwent training in the A-6 aircraft. He went on to serve 20 months in the Vietnam War and flew 250 combat missions aboard the USS Midway. C.J. spent many years at sea serving in various roles, including Training Coordinator, Assistant Flight Deck Officer, Commander - Operational Test and Evaluation Force, and Commander - Medium Attack Wing One. C.J. finished the last eight years of his career working at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., where he retired from the Navy in 1992. Commander Witkowski is the recipient of the Individual Ac-Lion Air Medal, Air Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Presidential Unit Commendation, Navy Unit Commendation Medal. Navy Expedi-Lionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He passed on June 20th, 2010.
