1LT Shirley V. B. Bentley served in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps in World War II. She enlisted August 2, 1943 and went to basic training at Halloran General Hospital on Staten Island, N.Y. She was assigned as an OR nurse with the 160th General Army Hospital, which specialized as a neurosurgical and thoracic center. Bentley was awarded the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, American Campaign Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
