Namesake: MSgt Derek “Baldy” Baldwin
Born in San Gabriel, CA in February 1968, MSG Derek “Baldy” Baldwin was selected for and completed the Ranger Indoctrination Program. Baldy moved to Fort Bragg, NC for an assignment to Special Forces. Baldy became a military freefall instructor for many years conducting free jumps into NFL football games and other major events. Later, Baldy would serve with JSOC and have a full career where he was both respected and revered in the Special Forces community. Baldy served over 25 years on active duty, then continued supporting the Army mission as a contractor in Afghanistan. His work building and fielding technology solutions for the Army is lasting proof of his leadership and drive. A few of Baldy’s numerous awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Meritorious Service Medals.
